Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring active VA or Compact RN licensure and telemetry experience in a Level I Trauma Center teaching hospital.

Details

  • Work in the 6 West Progressive Care Unit (PCU) of an acute care teaching hospital
  • Care for adult and geriatric patients with a primary focus on chest pain management, ruling in/out MI, and expediting ER flow
  • Occasional overflow from cardiology and medicine PCU, including post-cath patients
  • Typical patient ratio of 1:5 with high patient turnover
  • Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting implemented on the unit
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (6:45am-7:15pm)
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
  • Floating required within skillset
  • Epic charting system experience required

Requirements

  • Active VA State or Compact RN license required, unless holding a single-state license from a non-compact state, in which case pending license may be accepted
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and Rapid Response/Code team activation
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Experience administering and managing cardiac drips including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose Dopamine/Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, and Lasix (no titration)
  • Experience with respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen delivery, and non-invasive airway management

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care within a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated hospital affiliated with a medical school
  • Must work one holiday per 13-week contract, with two holidays required during winter holiday periods (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve/New Year's Day)
  • Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
  • All RTO requests must be submitted upfront prior to assignment start
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates may be accepted depending on distance from facility, with specific eligibility and rate exceptions for those living within 100 miles
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year separation before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return under current facility policy
