Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring vent/trach experience and an active VA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in a hybrid 12-bed unit consisting of 10 PCU beds and 2 ICU beds
  • Care for vent/trach dependent patients along with general PCU diagnoses such as DKA, COPD, sepsis, suicide/overdose, chronic respiratory failure, and renal failure
  • Typical patient ratio of 1:5
  • Two beds designated for chronic trach patients with remote telemetry monitoring and tele-sitting support
  • Day shift schedule of 3x12 hours, 6:45am-7:15pm
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Required to work 1 holiday per 13-week contract
  • Floating required within skillset across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
  • EPIC charting experience required

Requirements

  • Active VA state or compact RN license required (single-state license from non-compact state may be accepted pending)
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant nursing experience
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and Rapid Response/Code team activation
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Experience administering cardiac drips without titration
  • Skilled in respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
  • Experience with ventilator care for chronic trach and vent patients
  • Knowledgeable in isolation precautions and PPE use
  • Two professional references required for consideration
  • PDF copies of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Facility is a large acute care, Level I Trauma Center with Magnet designation and teaching hospital affiliation
  • Not considered an ideal assignment for first-time travelers
  • Local candidates are accepted, though those residing within 100 miles (per driver's license address) are generally not eligible, with limited exceptions for closer distances at reduced eligibility or bill rate
  • Previous per diem or permanent employees must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, subject to case-by-case review
  • All RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted upfront prior to assignment start
