Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Neuro-Stroke Progressive Care Unit position requiring telemetry monitoring skills and ACLS certification, working night shifts in a hospital setting.

Details

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a Neuro/Stroke focus, also managing respiratory, cardiac, and mixed medical patients
  • Patient population ranges from adolescents to geriatrics
  • Patient ratio of 1:4 on a 36-bed unit with an average daily census of 30
  • Titration of cardiac drips required with continuous telemetry monitoring
  • Key skills include BiPAP/CPAP management, HFNC, tracheostomy care, chest tube management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, and phlebotomy
  • Neurological cases include CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, and traumatic brain injury
  • EMR: Epic (preferred); also uses Pyxis
  • Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:00)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating within the facility and scope of practice as needed
  • No on-call requirements
  • No block scheduling

Requirements

  • Active GA or Compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Experience with cardiac and neuro stepdown, telemetry, or PCU/IMC/DOU settings strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips required
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Two supervisory references (manager level or above) are highly preferred; charge nurse references are not accepted
  • Copies of required certifications must be provided for consideration

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

  • RTO must be finalized prior to acceptance; no RTO or schedule requests will be accommodated after offer or once on assignment
  • Maximum of 7 days RTO per contract; RTO cannot be requested during the first week of assignment
  • RTO blackout dates apply during Spring Break (April 4–12)
  • Holiday coverage policy: if 1–2 major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work all of them; if 3 major holidays fall within the assignment, travelers must work 2 (one holiday RTO request may be considered)
  • Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
  • Travel pairs will not be assigned to the same shift on the same unit
  • Candidates who have previously worked at this health system as permanent staff, per diem, or in a similar capacity must have been away from all facilities within the health system for a full year before being eligible to apply as a traveler
  • Travelers who previously canceled or received a Do Not Return (DNR) status must complete one successful assignment outside of this health system before reapplying
  • All compliance onboarding items must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing, with all documents due the Tuesday prior to the start date
