Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring 2+ years of specialty experience and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

• Work in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown) of a hospital environment
• Patient population includes bariatric surgery, urology (TURP/TURBT with CBI, nephrectomy, ileal conduit creation, nephroureterectomy), hepatobiliary (Whipple, liver resection, complex biliary cases), colorectal, and trauma patients with abdominal injuries and necrotizing soft tissue infections
• Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
• Required to work 8 weekend shifts within Saint Luke's 6-week scheduling period, in a combination of Friday/Saturday/Sunday shifts
• No on-call responsibilities
• Regular floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active RN license (Missouri or Compact) currently in hand
• Both Kansas and Missouri licenses (or compact) required in hand due to potential floating requirements
• Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 2 years of recent specialty experience, including a full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gaps greater than 90 days
• Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers not accepted
• Required skills: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, use of Rapid Response/Code teams, feeding tube care and management, Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI), peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting and maintaining IVs, epidural analgesia, PCA, surgical drains, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), isolation precautions/PPE, and wound care/wound vac management
• Epic charting system experience required
• 2 professional references required, one from a supervisor level or above and the second from a charge RN, both from within the past year
• Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility

Additional Information

• Provide specialized post-operative and trauma nursing care across multiple surgical specialties including bariatric, urology, hepatobiliary, and colorectal patients
• Manage complex pain control methods including epidural, PCA, ketamine drip, and lidocaine infusion
• Care for patients with multiple drain types including foley, JP, IR drain, NG tube, chest tube, G-tube, J-tube, and GJ-tube
• Perform serial wound vac changes for necrotizing soft tissue infection cases
• Maximum RTO allowed is 7 days
• Travel partners not accepted for this position
• Former BJC or Saint Luke's permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
• Staff with 18+ months of tenure must have a 3-month break in service before returning
• No block scheduling accommodations available
