Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Medical Oncology PCU position requiring 2 years of acute care experience with at least 1 year in PCU and an active OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in a 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU-level care
  • Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
  • Rare pediatric patients may be present but are typically cared for by permanent staff
  • Rotating 12-hour day/night shift schedule with assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
  • Staffing ratios target 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU, though ratios may vary based on unit needs
  • Weekend shifts are variable
  • Uses GE B450 telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months
  • At least 1 year of PCU experience required
  • Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Skills required: dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response team utilization, feeding tube care, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line management, IV starts, heparin protocols, non-titrated cardiac drip management, PCA management, chest tube care (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula use, and tracheostomy management
  • Preferred skills: dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drain care, and non-invasive airway management
  • 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager/director or supervisor and the second from a manager/director or charge RN (no coworker references accepted)

Additional Information

  • Provide high-acuity PCU-level nursing care with a strong focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
  • Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is valued, even without prior travel experience
  • Locals are accepted at the same rate
  • RTO must be requested and built into the contract prior to submission, limited to 7 days or less
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of the health system are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this facility
  • Candidates must complete an urgent Ohio fingerprinting process immediately upon signing the contract, with specific instructions provided by the credentialing team based on candidate location
