Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) travel assignment focused on acute leukemia and hematology patients, requiring a minimum of 2 years of current acute care experience and active OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • PCU setting within an academic cancer hospital environment
  • Unit specializes in newly diagnosed acute leukemia and hematology patients
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30); rotating day/night scheduling possible depending on unit needs
  • Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period and are subject to change based on staffing needs
  • Target patient ratio is 1:4, with potential for 1:5 based on unit needs
  • Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
  • Epic EMR — experience required
  • Heavy emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
  • No chemo certification required

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
  • Current certifications required: BLS and ACLS
  • Preferred certifications: ONS Chemo Cert and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; experience must be current and within the last 12 months in a PCU or equivalent acute care setting
  • Oncology experience preferred; facility will train to oncology patient population
  • Required skills: telemetry monitoring, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting and maintaining IVs, feeding tube care and management, and use of rapid response teams
  • Preferred skills: accessing/managing ports and starting IVs
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Nursing degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program required
  • 2 professional references required: at least 1 from a manager, director, or formal leadership role (charge RN acceptable as 2nd reference); coworker references are not accepted

Additional Information

  • Provides acute nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with newly diagnosed acute leukemia and other hematological conditions
  • First-time travelers will be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Local candidates are accepted
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted prior to consideration and will be built into the contract; RTO is limited to 7 days or less
  • Former employees of this health system are eligible after a 6-month separation period; current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible
  • Ohio state fingerprinting is required and must be completed promptly upon contract signing — candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location; those farther away will receive a fingerprinting packet by mail
