Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring 2 years of recent specialty experience, ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications, and Epic EMR proficiency.

Details

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a hospital setting
  • Patient ratio of 1:5
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
  • 13-week contract
  • 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period, with shifts falling on a combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required as needed
  • No on-call requirements
  • Patient population includes cardiac (post-MI, pre/post cardiac cath, pre/post cardiac surgery), neurological (CVA), renal, orthopedic, and general PCU cases
  • Clinical skills required include telemetry monitoring (on-unit and remote), dysrhythmia interpretation and management, cardiac drip titration and management, heparin protocols, IV insulin protocols, PCA, procedural sedation, chest tube management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy care, PICC and central line management, wound care/wound vac, and surgical drain management

Requirements

  • Active RN license — MO state license or a Compact RN license currently in hand; both Kansas and Missouri licensure (or Compact) required due to floating requirements
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/specialty experience required, with at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gap greater than 90 days in the past year
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience in applicable work settings: MS/Tele, Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, ER Holding, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
  • Previous charge RN experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • 2 professional references required — one must be supervisor level or above; the second may be a charge RN; both must have worked with the candidate within the past year
  • SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Charge RN assignments may be required as needed per unit
  • Holiday shift coverage required as needed
  • Pre-start orientation modules required (approximately 10–15 hours total), due the Monday one week prior to start; Epic training modules should be completed first, with a test-out option available
  • Infusion pump and glucometer training must be completed by the Sunday prior to the start date
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Travel partners are not accepted for this position
  • Candidates must reside beyond a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
  • Maximum of 7 days of RTO allowed; all RTO must be finalized prior to consideration and no additional RTO requests will be accepted after submission
  • Candidates who have previously worked at a BJC or Saint Luke's facility as a permanent employee must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Returning travelers must have an 18-month gap since their last assignment at this health system, with a minimum 3-month break in service
  • Candidates must be willing to float between Kansas and Missouri facilities; unwillingness to do so may result in contract cancellation
