Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU / IMC / Stepdown)

Contract | Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | 12-Hour Shifts | 36 Hours per Week | 13-Week Assignment

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care for patients with acute and complex neurological conditions including stroke (ischemic and hemorrhagic), seizure disorders, SAH/SDH, encephalopathy, multiple sclerosis, and Guillain-Barré syndrome
  • Manage post-neurosurgical patients including those recovering from craniotomy, ventriculostomy, complex neuro-spine surgery, and laminectomies
  • Perform and interpret cardiac monitoring strips; manage various intravenous drips including cardiac, insulin, and heparin infusions
  • Assist with lumbar punctures, manage arterial lines, central lines, lumbar drains, and care for tracheotomy patients
  • Perform IV starts, peripheral lab draws, and arterial blood draws
  • Adhere to patient ratios of 1:4 to 1:6 depending on acuity, including required holiday and weekend shift commitments within the scheduling framework

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact State license
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Current NIHSS certification
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
  • Neuro nursing experience required
  • Must reside outside an 80-mile local radius of the facility

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Prior travel nursing experience
  • Proficiency with EPIC electronic health records
  • Experience managing acute stroke, post-neurosurgical, and complex neuro-spine patient populations
