Description

American Traveler is hiring a PCU Registered Nurse for a surgical oncology unit requiring at least 1 year of PCU experience and 2 years of total acute care experience.

Details

  • 12-hour night shift rotation (7:00 PM-7:30 AM), 3x12 schedule
  • Mixed acuity surgical oncology unit caring for both PCU and Med Surg patients
  • Adult and geriatric patient population
  • Surgical oncology diagnoses including breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastics/reconstructive cases
  • Staffing ratio goal of 1:4, may be up to 1:5
  • Variable weekend scheduling based on unit needs
  • No set or blocked scheduling offered
  • Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period; travelers may be scheduled for days, nights, or a rotating combination
  • Float requirement within scope of practice
  • Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Ohio or Compact) required and must be in hand at time of submission
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Preferred certification: ONS Chemo
  • Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of PCU experience
  • Acute care experience must be current and consistent within the last 12 months
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Skilled in respiratory care, with BiPAP/CPAP management preferred
  • Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac) preferred
  • Tracheostomy care and management skills required
  • Experience with cardiac telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and management
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager or director-level leader; charge RN acceptable for second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide nursing care for complex surgical oncology patients, including chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and management of oncologic emergencies including cytokine release syndrome
  • Administer and monitor insulin and heparin drips
  • Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
  • Complete urgent Ohio fingerprinting process immediately upon contract signing
  • First-time travelers are welcome; candidates should come with a willingness to learn and grow their nursing practice
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
  • Former employees eligible for travel assignments after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of the health system are ineligible for travel positions at this facility
  • Requested time off must be submitted and built into the contract at time of submission, limited to 7 days or less
