Travel PCU Registered Nurse (PCU RN) – Progressive Care Unit Assignment in Greenville, NC

Join a high-acuity Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing team in Greenville, North Carolina, caring for complex post-operative cardiac, thoracic, and vascular patients. This 13-week travel nursing assignment offers the opportunity to work in a 24-bed monitored intermediate and general care unit with supportive staffing ratios, self-scheduling, and a collaborative clinical environment.   • Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week; 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Six weekend shifts per six-week schedule
  • Unit: 24-bed monitored flex unit serving intermediate and general care patients
  • Staffing Ratio: Approximately 1 RN to 4–5 patients
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduling

PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or a compact state
  • At least 1 year of registered nursing experience, including strong cardiac nursing or progressive care experience
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Demonstrated proficiency with IV insertion
  • Ability to care for post-operative cardiac, thoracic, and vascular patients in a monitored setting
  • Experience managing cardiac and other critical-care intravenous drips
  • Ability to meet applicable travel assignment requirements, including the local-radius policy

Progressive Care Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from cardiac, thoracic, and vascular procedures.
  • Monitor patients requiring intermediate-level care and promptly recognize changes in clinical condition.
  • Manage arterial lines, central lines, pacemakers, chest tubes, and other specialized devices.
  • Perform and document peripheral and arterial laboratory draws and IV starts.
  • Administer and monitor intravenous drips, including cardiac, furosemide, insulin, heparin, and antihypertensive infusions.
  • Provide care for patients with PCAs, epidurals, feeding tubes, and other post-operative therapies.
  • Assist with bedside procedures such as transesophageal echocardiography, cardioversion, chest tube placement, and thoracentesis.
  • Collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary care team to support safe, timely, and patient-centered outcomes.
