Description

American Traveler is hiring a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 2+ years of experience and NIHSS certification.

Details

• Acute care Stepdown/PCU unit within a Level 2 Trauma facility
• 35-bed unit with patient ratios of 1:4-5
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, and diabetes diagnoses, including continuous EEG monitoring
• RNs required to titrate drips such as Cardizem, beta blockers, and seizure medications
• Charge Nurse present on each shift and does not take a patient assignment
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:10 or 2:20 ratio
• 12-hour night shifts, 0630-1900 and 1830-0700
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday rotation of every third holiday
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating required to Medical floors, ICU, or rehab
• Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

• Active State or Compact (NLC) RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN not required
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS, all active and not pending
• Driver's license required at time of consideration to confirm residence location
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Deliver acute progressive care nursing services on a fast-paced unit
• Success on this unit is supported by a positive attitude, strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
• Onboarding includes a first week of general orientation followed by 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
• A pass/fail open-book exam is administered during orientation, requiring a 90% score to pass
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not be currently or previously employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
• Up to 7 days of requested time off must be submitted upfront for the 13-week contract; additional time off will not be approved after submission
• First-time travelers may be considered for this position
