Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical PCU (Progressive Care Unit) travel position requiring ventilator experience and Epic proficiency at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital in Roanoke, VA.
Details
- Night shift schedule: 4x12s, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Patient ratio is typically 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
- Unit functions as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU, with a bariatric specialty and backup support to the trauma unit
- Unit includes 2 beds designated for chronic trach patients (non-ICU level)
- Respiratory support provided includes nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
- Equipment used includes ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach, endo tools, PICC lines, and multi-lumen catheters (MML)
- IV drips managed include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose Dopamine/Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration required)
- Remote telemetry is used with monitors remaining on the unit; tele sitting is implemented to supplement Patient Care Tech coverage
- Floating within skillset is required
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- One holiday must be worked per 13-week contract
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Ventilator care experience required, specifically for chronic trach patients
- Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
- Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Familiarity with isolation precautions and telemetry settings across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown environments
- Experience with Rapid Response and Code team activation
- Epic EMR experience required
