PCU Travel Nursing Job Details
- Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU), stepdown, and telemetry nursing
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Location: Columbia, South Carolina
- Start Date: October 26, 2026
- End Date: January 25, 2027
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,750–$1,840
- Schedule: Three night shifts per week
- Shifts per Week: 3
- Shift Duration: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Unit: 41-bed progressive care trauma and telemetry unit
- Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients with surgical trauma diagnoses
- Patient Ratio: Typically 1:4, flexing up to 1:5 as needed
- Weekend Coverage: Approximately 6 weekend shifts during each 6-week scheduling period
PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in South Carolina
- At least 1 year of recent PCU, progressive care, stepdown, intermediate care, or telemetry nursing experience
- At least 2 years of relevant nursing experience required for first-time travel nurses
- Current AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- At least 1 year of recent Epic electronic medical record experience
- Strong telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation skills
- Experience caring for surgical trauma, orthopedic trauma, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and complex postoperative patients preferred
- Competency with central lines, PICC lines, chest tubes, surgical drains, wound care, feeding tubes, tracheostomy care, IV therapy, blood products, and heparin protocols
- Ability to complete required pre-assignment testing and orientation modules
- Flexibility to float to qualified units or campuses when needed
- Current influenza vaccination is required
Progressive Care RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for adult and geriatric patients recovering from traumatic injuries and surgical procedures
- Monitor patients using bedside telemetry and promptly identify changes in cardiac rhythm or clinical condition
- Manage progressive care patients requiring close assessment, frequent interventions, and coordinated multidisciplinary care
- Administer medications, blood products, anticoagulation therapies, and other treatments safely and accurately
- Assess and care for central lines, PICC lines, chest tubes, surgical drains, feeding tubes, tracheostomies, and wound vacuums
- Support patients with respiratory needs, including oxygen therapy, high-flow nasal cannula, and BiPAP/CPAP management
- Recognize patient deterioration and activate rapid response or code teams according to established protocols
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in Epic
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, IV teams, and other care partners
- Promote patient safety, comfort, education, and continuity of care throughout the travel nursing assignment
