PCU Travel Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in South Carolina
- At least 1 year of recent PCU, progressive care, stepdown, intermediate care, or telemetry nursing experience
- At least 2 years of recent nursing experience for first-time travelers
- Minimum 1 year of recent Epic experience
- Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications
- NIHSS certification
- Proficiency with telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and progressive care nursing
- Medication competency assessment required
- Ability to complete required pre-assignment testing and orientation activities
- Willingness to float to qualified units or locations based on patient-care needs
- Seasonal influenza vaccination required
PCU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to medically stable adult and geriatric patients recovering from traumatic injuries and surgical procedures
- Monitor patients using telemetry and recognize, interpret, and respond to changes in cardiac rhythms
- Manage patients with surgical trauma, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, orthopedic trauma, chest tubes, surgical drains, wound vacuums, and feeding tubes
- Administer medications, blood products, and therapies according to established protocols
- Provide care for central lines, PICC lines, peripheral IVs, tracheostomies, and enteral feeding devices
- Support patients requiring oxygen therapy, high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP, or CPAP
- Complete accurate patient assessments and documentation in Epic
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, phlebotomy, social services, and rapid response teams
- Respond effectively to changes in patient condition and participate in rapid response or code-team interventions as appropriate
- Promote patient safety, infection prevention, skin integrity, and continuity of care throughout the assignment
