Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality nursing care to patients in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and patient-centered service.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care in a stepdown unit specializing in heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke management.
• Monitor patients and interpret telemetry, including reading and interpreting EKG strips.
• Administer medication and titrate intravenous drips as required (including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin).
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to deliver comprehensive patient care.
• Participate in patient admissions, discharges, and overall management of assigned patient caseload.
• Ensure compliance with departmental protocols and nursing procedures.
• Actively engage in departmental orientation and training sessions.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a stepdown or similar unit.
• Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Unit Information

• Number of Beds: 22
• Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:4
• Support Staff: Nursing aides/patient care technicians available with a ratio of 1:10.

Shifts and Scheduling

• 12-hour night shifts (6:30 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Cyclic scheduling with every other weekend and designated holiday requirements.
• Floating to the ICU may be required based on experience and unit needs.
• One 12-hour shift of unit-specific orientation provided.

Additional Notes

This role requires a positive attitude and a strong commitment to patient care. Candidates must be willing to adhere to strict departmental policies, including those related to artificial nails and mandatory examinations during orientation. RTO (Request Time Off) must be submitted upfront, and additional requests will not be approved.
