Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic stepdown unit. This position entails working with a diverse patient population, providing high-quality care to young adults through geriatrics with complex medical issues. Ideal candidates should possess a strong sense of teamwork and a commitment to enhancing the patient experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care to a diverse population, including individuals with sepsis, STEMI, CHF, stroke, and COVID-19.
• Monitor patients and interpret telemetry strips; RNs are responsible for reading their own strips.
• Titrate and administer intravenous medications, including heparin, amiodarone, cardizem, nitroglycerin, and insulin.
• Ensure adherence to clinical guidelines and protocols for patient care.
• Cohabitate with a certified nursing assistant (CNA) for efficiency in patient management during our transition to virtual nursing.

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required.
• Strong teamwork skills and a positive, can-do attitude.
• Ability to engage with patients through bedside report and hourly rounding.

Unit Information

• Bed Capacity: 33 beds
• Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:4-5 patients per RN
• CNA to Patient Ratio: 1:10
• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts, with rotating schedules of days and nights.
• New hires will undergo a structured orientation program that includes classroom training and hands-on practice on the floor.

Work Environment

This stepdown unit has a busy patient flow with admissions and discharges occurring within the same timeframe as shift changes. Candidates should be adept at managing time effectively and prioritizing patient needs.

Location

This position is based in a stepdown unit located in a vibrant city, known for its excellent healthcare facilities, surrounded by a supportive community.

Additional Information

• Virtual nursing implementation expected in June, which will modify some responsibilities and the nurse-to-patient ratio.
• Floating to MedSurg, Inpatient Rehab, or Skilled Care may be required based on unit needs.
• Fingernail policy: Artificial nails are prohibited while providing patient care.
• Completion of an open-book exam on skills learned during orientation is required with a minimum passing score of 90%.
