Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a PCU/Float Pool position requiring WA or compact RN license and prior PCU/Tele and float pool experience.

Details

  • Float pool position covering PCU, Tele, MedSurg, and ER Holding units within the hospital and occasionally at a nearby sister hospital (~2.5 miles away)
  • Most shifts will be spent in the ED Holding area, though this is not considered the home unit
  • Patient population includes neuro, trauma, surgical, and medical cases such as respiratory compromise, sepsis, renal failure, bleeding disorders, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, ortho, and stroke
  • Cardiac stepdown (CCU) and Cardiac Short Stay patients include 24h post CABG/TAVR, STEMI, fem-pop, pacemaker, ablation, chest pain observation, and post-cath cases
  • Patient ratios are 1:4 on PCU and 1:5-6 on MedSurg
  • 12-hour night shifts (1900-0730) with some day shift hours (0700-1930) possible
  • 36 hours per week with weekend rotation every other weekend, occasionally back-to-back
  • No on-call requirements
  • Schedules built in 3-week increments and provided 7-10 days in advance, with no self-scheduling or guaranteed patterned schedule

Requirements

  • Active WA state or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Strong PCU/Telemetry experience and previous float pool experience required for first-time traveler consideration
  • Experience with IV medication titration, cardiac rhythm interpretation, BiPAP management, ostomy care, general drains, tracheostomies, chest tubes, and lumbar drains required
  • TR Bands experience preferred
  • EPIC EMR experience required

Additional Information

  • Support team includes CNAs, a charge RN without patient assignment, 24/7 hospitalist and respiratory therapy coverage, and on-call cardiac and specialty physicians
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing system
  • Orientation includes 1 day of general hospital orientation and 1 day (12 hours) of PCU unit orientation
  • Traveler telemetry competency assessment required
  • Responsibilities include whiteboard documentation, hourly rounding, and bedside shift report
  • Two-nurse verification required when wasting narcotics or benzodiazepines
  • Pain documentation required before and after medication administration (30 minutes for IV, 1 hour for oral)
  • Scrub attire must be any solid, professional color
  • Free parking available in a parking garage
  • Up to 5 days of requested time off can be approved
  • First-time travelers will be considered if they meet strong PCU/Tele and float pool experience requirements
