Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool position requiring 5 years of combined NICU/PICU/Peds experience with a strong NICU background.

Details

• Home unit is a 22-bed Level III NICU caring for preterm infants as young as 22 weeks gestation, respiratory distress, hyperbili, IDM/poor feeders, failure to thrive, and hypoglycemia with a focus on quiet developmental support
• Float requirement to PICU (8-bed Level II) and Pediatrics (24-bed general med/surg with embedded Eating Disorder Stabilization Program and long-term EEG program)
• PICU cases include traumas, respiratory diagnoses, ingestions, and occasional surgical patients
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Day shift schedule of 3x12 hours from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
• 6 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule, including major holiday blocks
• Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

• Active CA RN license in hand at time of consideration; pending or temporary licenses not accepted
• Current BLS, NRP, and PALS certifications required; RNC-NIC and CCRN preferred
• Minimum 5 years of experience combined from NICU, PICU, and/or Peds with a strong NICU background required
• Prior travel experience required
• Experience managing ventilated patients including vent management 2-3 times per week
• Skilled in respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, ETT/NT suctioning, and care of acute airways
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, central and PICC line management, and administration of blood products
• Experience with emergency medications including antiarrhythmics, IV vasopressors, and continuous sedation preferred
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Two supervisor-level references required, dated within 1 year of start date or from most recent employer

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing support across NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics units as part of a float pool team
• Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments
• Up to 16 hours of orientation modules may be required, varying by specialty
• Maximum of 7 days RTO permitted, with no RTO allowed within the first week of the assignment
• No holiday RTO will be accepted
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
• Former staff must be separated for at least 1 year before reapplying for travel positions
• Candidates previously marked DNR from Rady's will not be considered for this facility due to merger with Rady Children's Health
