Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Intermediate Care position at a Level I Trauma, teaching children's hospital, requiring prior travel experience and 2–5 years of PICU/IMCU clinical experience.

Details

• Position is based in the 3C Intermediate Care unit (IMCU), with floating required within the ICU cluster, which includes NICE, PICU, Burn PICU, and IMCU — travelers are first to float
• PICU is a 26-bed unit; IMCU is a 13-bed unit within a 359-bed, Level I Trauma, academic teaching hospital
• PICU patient population includes respiratory distress, CRRT, ECMO, post-arrest, blunt and penetrating trauma, neuro, surgical post-ops, urology, ortho, ENT (trach revisions, cleft lip/palate), burns in intubated patients under 13 years, and new onset DKA
• IMCU patient population includes respiratory distress, DKA, chronic vents, trachs, and patients stepped down from the PICU
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: PICU 1:1–2; IMCU 1:3–4
• Ancillary support includes 1–2 CNAs/PCTs per shift, with Advanced Practice providers on the units
• PICU staffing includes Residents, Fellows, and Attending MDs; IMCU is covered by Hospitalists until 11 PM, then Residents
• EMR is Epic (required); medication management via Pyxis with barcode scanning and pharmacy dose verification
• Equipment includes GE Dash monitors, Servo-I ventilators, and long-term vents in the IMCU; RTs and RNs co-manage ventilators
• In-house transport system available; ECMO is available in the CVICU
• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 36 hours per week
• Schedule is manager/scheduler driven; every other weekend is required
• Holiday coverage is required as needed; no on-call responsibilities

Requirements

• Active AR RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS required; additional certifications such as ACLS and TNCC may be required based on unit assignment
• Minimum 2–5 years of clinical experience in PICU or pediatric specialty care required
• PICU candidates require at least 2 years of PICU experience; IMCU candidates must have some PICU experience due to floating requirements
• Previous travel nursing experience (at least one prior assignment) required
• Recent Epic EMR experience required
• Must be nicotine-free
• At least one professional reference within the last year required for consideration
• Specialty skills checklist required for consideration

• Hospital is a Level I Trauma, academic teaching hospital with a dedicated pediatric focus, including Child Life and Education specialists who support patients with unique schooling needs during prolonged hospitalizations
• Two parents are permitted to remain at the bedside
• Renal transplant and post-op cardiac cases are handled in the CVICU
• RNs should expect 2–3 days of orientation and facility-specific specialty testing
• Facility dress code must be followed

• Candidates living within a 60-mile radius of the facility may be subject to a local pay rate
