Key Responsibilities of the Pharmacist

Accept and dispense prescription medications
Monitor patient medication compliance and over-usage patterns
Ensure that the supply of medicines is within the law and appropriate for the patient
Accurately maintain confidential records of all patients
Advise patients on medicine usage, potential reactions, and answer any questions
Consult on non-prescription medications for storage, dosage, side effects, and drug interactions
Provide additional patient services like smoking cessation and cholesterol management
Educate patients on the proper handling of medical devices
Compound medications for external or internal use and prepare sterile solutions
Supervise pharmacy staff including technicians and clerks
Maintain inventory on pharmaceutical and medical supplies
Identify patient drug-related issues and communicate with other healthcare practitioners
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and pharmacy interns

Requirements of the Pharmacist

Doctor of Pharmacy degree required
Licensed by the state pharmacy board
Experience with sterile compounding and IV infusions preferred
