Job Description
Oncology Pharmacist responsible for chemotherapy medication management, oncology order verification, sterile compounding oversight, and coordination with oncology providers and nursing staff in a fast-paced clinical environment. The Pharmacist will ensure safe and compliant preparation/evaluation of chemotherapy regimens while adhering to USP 797, USP 800, and all regulatory requirements.
The role requires expertise in oncology pharmacy practices including chemotherapy inventory management, regimen review, medication reconciliation, and optimization of medication usage to minimize waste. The Pharmacist will collaborate with multidisciplinary oncology teams to support patient safety and effective treatment outcomes.
Mandatory Skills / Experience
Registered Pharmacist currently licensed in New York State required
Completion of PGY2 Oncology Residency and/or BCOP certification preferred
1–5 years or more experience preparing/evaluating chemotherapy regimens required
Experience with chemotherapy inventory and procurement required
Experience reviewing chemotherapy order sheets for accuracy and optimization required
Knowledge of NCCN guidelines and chemotherapy study protocols required
Experience with USP 797 and USP 800 sterile compounding regulations required
Ability to coordinate medication reconciliation and oncology treatment planning
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced oncology pharmacy environment
Responsibilities Include
Maintaining chemotherapy inventory and par levels to minimize waste
Reviewing chemotherapy orders for stability, concentration, dosing, and accuracy
Coordinating vial-size optimization with providers to reduce waste
Defining beyond-use dates and medication labeling requirements
Monitoring lifetime chemotherapy doses
Communicating with oncology providers and nursing staff regarding medication-related concerns
Supporting formulary compliance and inventory management
Certifications
New York State Pharmacist License required
BCOP Certification preferred
PGY2 Oncology Residency preferred
