Retail Pharmacist

Key Responsibilities
  • Compound and dispense prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care.
  • Review prescriptions issued by physicians or other authorized prescribers to ensure accuracy and determine required formulas and ingredients.
  • Counsel pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals when counseling is accepted.
  • Maintain established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
  • Instruct pharmacy interns and technicians on pharmacy matters while maintaining required pharmacist-to-technician and pharmacist-to-intern ratios per state and federal law.
  • Report prescription errors immediately, manage third-party Rx system issues, and ensure compliance with all applicable pharmacy policies and regulations.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Pharmacist license to practice in the State of California.
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Compliance with all current federal, state, and local laws, guidelines, and regulations governing retail pharmaceutical services.
  • Maintenance of required continuing education hours annually to ensure continued competence.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience working with third-party Rx systems and resolving third-party rejection issues.
  • Familiarity with retail pharmacy operations including inventory management, loss prevention, and expense control.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for data compilation and record management.
