Compound and dispense prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care; review prescriptions for accuracy and determine required formulas and ingredients.
Provide counseling to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals when accepted.
Maintain established procedures for quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
Direct and instruct pharmacy workers, interns, and technicians engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals while maintaining required pharmacist-to-technician and pharmacist-to-intern ratios per state and federal law.
Manage third-party Rx systems, resolve third-party rejection problems promptly, and report prescription errors immediately in accordance with policy.
Ensure compliance of retail pharmacy services with all applicable state and federal regulations, including safety, security, and sanitation procedures.
Required Qualifications
Active Pharmacist license to practice in the State of California.
Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Compliance with all current federal, state, and local laws, guidelines, and regulations governing retail pharmaceutical services.
Maintenance of required continuing education hours annually to ensure continued competence.
Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of an organization.
Preferred Experience / Skills
Experience managing difficult or emotional customer situations with a focus on prompt, professional resolution and service improvement.
Familiarity with retail pharmacy operations including inventory management, loss prevention controls, and maximizing sales while controlling expenses.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for data compilation, record maintenance, and reporting.
