Diploma/GED required Certifications: CPhT - Certified Pharmacy Technician (Required) Must-Have: Advanced competency in pharmacy technician skills Description: The Pharmacy Technician III Prescription Prior Authorization Technician (PAT) operates with relative independence under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. This role involves completing prescription prior authorization requests on behalf of providers. The technician must maintain advanced competency in the skills of the Technician I and Technician II roles within the pharmacy department. Responsibilities include identifying appropriate prior authorization forms based on pharmacy benefit investigations and utilizing electronic medical record resources. The technician will perform metric driven data entry of patient demographics, prescription information, and prescriber information. They will utilize plan criteria questions to guide data mining efforts within patient charts to complete prescription authorization requests. Effective communication regarding all prior authorization submissions, follow-ups, approvals, and denials to outpatient pharmacies and clinical staff is required. They will maintain accurate internal records of prior authorizations per department requirements. Collaboration with pharmacists and provider teams is essential to ensure accurate submission of prescription prior authorization requests. The technician must maintain current knowledge of various diagnosis codes and drugs applicable to the prior authorization process. Staying updated on technology applications required for independent and remote work is necessary. Demonstrating a willingness to accept responsibility and show positive performance is expected. The technician will collaborate with the internal prior authorization team and managers to promote patient-centric solutions.
