Description:
The Pharmacy Technician III Prescription Prior Authorization Technician (PAT) practices with relative independence under the supervision and guidance of a Registered Pharmacist.
This role involves completing prescription prior authorization requests on behalf of providers for prescriptions originating from outpatient pharmacies.
The technician must maintain advanced competency in the skills of Technician I and Technician II roles.
Key responsibilities include identifying appropriate prior authorization forms based on pharmacy benefit investigations, as well as data entry of patient demographics, prescription information, and prescriber details.
The PAT must utilize plan criteria questions to guide data mining efforts within patient charts to complete prescription authorization requests.
All activity regarding the prior authorization process must be documented accurately and efficiently.
The PAT will demonstrate professionalism and serve as a role model for other technicians, committing to high-quality patient care.
Essential duties include transcribing prescription contents, submitting prior authorization requests within specified time frames, and following up on submitted requests.
Communication of prior authorization submissions, follow-ups, approvals, and denials to pharmacies and clinical staff is crucial.
The technician must maintain current knowledge of ICD10 diagnosis codes and relevant drugs for accurate submissions.
Staying current on basic technology applications is required to work independently and remotely.
The PAT should collaborate with internal prior authorization teams and managers to promote patient-centered solutions.
