Pharmacy Technician – Hospital
Shift: Days – 10 hours Schedule: 6:30 AM–5:00 PM, Monday–Wednesday; typically 6:30 AM–3:00 PM Sunday Weekend: Every other weekend / Sunday required Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours/week Contract: 13 weeks Charting System: Cerner
Must-Have Requirements
Active California Pharmacy Technician license — required
Candidates without a CA license will not be considered due to lengthy licensing process.
BLS certification — required
Hospital pharmacy experience — required
Must be able to make IVs
Experience with sterile compounding
Experience with unit-dose packaging/pre-packaging
Experience with Omnicell or Pyxis
Ability to work independently
Candidate should be comfortable being the only pharmacy technician in the department after training/orientation
No current L&D, NICU, or PICU.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, package, label, restock, and reorder medications and supplies under pharmacist supervision.
Prepare unit-dose medications.
Deliver and retrieve medications from patient-care areas.
Restock medication rooms, carts, and automated dispensing machines.
Use proper aseptic technique to prepare non-hazardous sterile compounded preparations.
Perform daily and weekly cleanroom cleaning.
Clean hazardous and non-hazardous IV hoods.
Prepare and restock emergency medication trays and boxes.
Monitor medication inventory, expiration dates, and storage conditions.
Complete pharmacy quality-control documentation.
Respond to phone and message requests from patient-care units.
Assist with resolving medication-related issues.
