Requires detailed knowledge of physical therapy practices and the principles behind them. Basic computer skills are required. Must have a fundamental understanding of the relevant rules and regulations of the setting. Evaluates and treats patients with a wide variety of therapeutic interventions to rehabilitate physical function and address developmental disorders. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles across various age groups. Oversees and ensures a comprehensive rehabilitation program that addresses the physical, psychosocial, and environmental well-being of patients. Promotes patient and caregiver self-determination by optimizing resource utilization to achieve the highest level of independence. Coordinates and communicates with various disciplines or services involved in patient care. Coordinates efforts toward discharge goals established during initial evaluations and throughout patient care episodes. Acts as a patient advocate. Other duties may be assigned. Settings may include inpatient, outpatient, long-term care, community-based care, and home health care. For pediatric physical therapists: Evaluates and treats infants, children, and adolescents for various health conditions, focusing on motor development, strength, range of motion, endurance, balance, coordination, and gait. Interviews children and family members and uses physical examination to diagnose movement disorders. Must have the ability to evaluate and treat patients from 18 years old and older. May float to adult units if needed based on pediatric patient census fluctuations. Evaluates and treats pediatric patients from birth to 18 years old regarding application of therapeutic interventions for rehabilitation of physical function and developmental disorders. Settings include inpatient and inpatient emergency departments.
