Implement treatment goals, plans, and programs as established by the supervising Physical Therapist, including posture training, strengthening exercise, balance, coordination, joint mobility, pain relief, and functional skills training.
Train patients in locomotion using orthotics, prosthetics, and assistive devices such as canes, crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs; demonstrate proper guarding and gait belt techniques.
Administer therapeutic modalities including ultrasound, hot/cold packs, whirlpool, paraffin bath, iontophoresis, fluidotherapy, and TENS as directed.
Monitor patient responses to treatment and intervene as necessary; document patient progress, response to treatment, and patient and family education.
Maintain a safe treatment environment by adhering to infection control, safe patient handling, and workplace safety policies; report equipment malfunctions or hazards promptly.
Collaborate with other healthcare disciplines, participate in team conferences, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the state of Indiana.
Minimum of recent outpatient physical therapy experience within the last 2 years.
Not a new graduate; prior clinical experience required.
Demonstrated knowledge of therapeutic exercise, modality application, and safe patient handling techniques.
Ability to maintain professional, ethical working relationships with patients, families, and staff.
Preferred Experience / Skills
Experience with a broad range of outpatient therapeutic interventions including community re-entry training and assistive device instruction.
Familiarity with documentation standards and electronic medical records in an outpatient rehabilitation setting.
