Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a PICU/PCICU position requiring at least 2 years of PICU experience with a minimum of 1 year in PCICU.

Details

• Work in a 22-bed PICU within a 152-bed Level II Trauma Center with an average census of 10-11 patients per day
• Mixed patient population including neuro, cardiac, respiratory, surgical, and medical cases with a predominant focus on PCICU/cardiovascular patients
• Cares for congenital heart defect patients from post-surgery through discharge, including fresh open hearts and post-cath cases (Stat categories 1-3, occasionally 4)
• May also care for general PICU patients including respiratory (hi-flow, CPAP, BiPAP, trachs, RSV, asthma, COVID), trauma, surgical, oncology, and neuro cases
• ECMO care supported by dedicated ECMO specialist; CRRT cases require prior CRRT/Prismax experience
• 12-hour day and night shifts (0700-1930, 1900-0730) with 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend
• No formal on-call, though low census standby for later shift call-ins may apply
• Floating required to MedSurg, ED, or NICU as Helping Hand or sitter
• Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and PALS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required, including at least 1 year in PCICU
• Experience with cardiac patients, surgeries, and diagnoses required
• Proficient in aseptic/sterile technique, dressing changes, ventilator and trach management, suctioning, G/GJ/J-tube and NG tube management, chest tubes, epidurals, PCA pumps, drip management, foley insertion/management, central line care and blood draws, peripheral lab draws, and patient discharge
• ECMO and peritoneal dialysis experience preferred but not required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Strong critical thinking, time management, and quick-learning skills required

Additional Information

• Provide direct bedside care to critically ill pediatric patients across a mixed PICU/PCICU population
• Complex facial wounds, eye injuries, penetrating trauma, solid organ transplants, major burns, VADS, and stem cell transplant cases are not managed at this facility
• Scrub requirements: any solid professional color, no graphics/logos/designs/hoods, long sleeves must be able to be pulled above the elbow and stay in place, long hair must be worn up
• Team spirit attire permitted on Fridays during football season
• First-time travelers will be considered for this position
