Description

American Traveler is hiring a PICU RN to care for pediatric patients in both a combined General Pediatrics and Pediatric ICU setting, requiring at least 1.5 years of PICU experience.

Details

  • Works in a 15-bed Pediatric Unit that includes a 5-bed PICU
  • Cares for pediatric patients ages 0-18 as well as stable adult overflow patients in General Pediatrics
  • PICU patients require critical or intensive care for conditions such as respiratory insufficiency, circulatory failure, infectious diseases, endocrine/metabolic disorders, neurologic diseases, trauma, and hematologic/oncologic disease
  • General Pediatrics RN to patient ratio is 1:5
  • PICU RN to patient ratio is 1:1-2
  • Uses EPIC charting system and Omnicell for medication dispensing
  • Schedule is 12-hour variable shifts totaling 48 hours per week
  • Works every other weekend
  • May be placed on low census or on-call status
  • Floating required to NICU (30-bed, feeder/growers, 1:3 ratio) and General Pediatrics (up to 1:5 ratio)

Requirements

  • Active RN license (South Dakota or Compact) currently in hand
  • Minimum 1.5 years of PICU RN experience required
  • First-time travelers considered only with 2+ years of overall RN experience
  • Required certifications: BLS, PALS, and NIHSS
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program
  • Proficient in physical assessment of patients ages 0 through adult
  • Skilled in titrating drips and caring for mechanically ventilated pediatric patients
  • Proficient in EPIC charting system

  • Perform physical assessments, evaluate vital signs, administer medications, and educate patients and families on plan of care
  • Unit supported by CNAs (1:5 ratio), a charge nurse covering both units, resource/educator nurses, case management, social work, respiratory therapy, and hospitalist/APP coverage
  • RNs are responsible for starting their own IVs, with ultrasound available for difficult access, and drawing their own labs
  • Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation and 2 days of unit orientation with a preceptor
  • Holiday coverage required for all facility-observed holidays
  • Time off requests must be pre-approved
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking available in a parking garage
  • Facility is traveler-friendly with a supportive, learn-and-grow culture
  • Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
