Job Title: Polysomnographic Technician Profession: Polysomnographic Technician - Polysomnographer Specialty: Polysomnography Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 1 year preferred License: State license required Certifications: BLS, RPSGT or RRT-SDS Must-Have: - Comfort working with pediatric to geriatric patients - Ability to prepare positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fittings - Knowledge of various therapeutic respiratory interventions (BiPAP, CPAP) - Familiarity with the testing process and ability to answer patient questions - Skills to establish and document baseline values including body position, movements, and vital signs - Ability to monitor electrodes and other probes appropriately - Troubleshooting skills for equipment - Basic patient care skills, including assistance with ambulation - Confidence to work independently depending on census Description: The role requires a technician to work primarily with outpatient populations, including pediatrics and geriatrics. Candidates should have experience managing sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and other sleep disorders. Patient ratios are 1:2, with special attention required for infants or pediatrics under age 6, where the ratio is 1:1. Technicians will prepare and fit PAP masks and be knowledgeable about therapeutic respiratory devices. They must document baseline values accurately and be able to monitor and troubleshoot monitoring equipment. Basic patient care skills are essential as the technician may need to assist with ambulation. Candidates should be confident working independently, as the clinic may operate based on patient census. Weekend rotations are required every other weekend, with no call or holiday shifts expected. Uniform requirements include pewter scrubs and a specific color for t-shirts. It is essential for technicians to maintain a visible badge at all times.
