Job Title: Pulmonary Function Technician / Polysomnographer Profession: Cardiopulmonary Specialty: Pulmonary Function Tech, Polysomnographer Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 3 x 12-hour Night shifts, consecutive Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 24 months in sleep disorder testing preferred License: Montana Licensure (Respiratory Therapist) or Montana Licensure (Registered Nurse) Certifications: American Heart Association BLS, Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT) Must-Have: Graduate of an AMA approved school for respiratory care or nursing. Self-directed individual with the ability to act independently under minimal supervision. Description: This position is responsible for performing all aspects of sleep disorders testing. Follow established policies and procedures. Adhere to the standards of the job description and overall philosophy of the organization. Perform a variety of standard protocols for sleep disorders testing, including setting up and monitoring the patient over a ten to twelve-hour period. Operate and troubleshoot sleep lab equipment. The technician is alone during the testing period and must be able to resolve most equipment problems without assistance. Incorporate cultural and age-appropriate care into all aspects of communication and patient care. According to physician orders, administer therapies to patients. Deal with a variety of tasks and situations simultaneously. Score and evaluate polysomnograms. Provide education and inservices for outreach accounts and groups or individuals interested in sleep disorders. Monitor and assist in maintaining sleep lab equipment. Perform other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department or organization. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and a positive attitude as well as a calm environment throughout the department. Essential Job Functions: Sets up and monitors sleep disorders tests. Assists and educates patients in sleep disorder diagnosis, equipment, and treatment. May be required to score and evaluate polysomnograms. Acts as primary contact in providing diagnostic information and consultation regarding all aspects of sleep disorders.
