Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Director of PET and with the clinical supervision of the reading physician, the technologist performs PET imaging on patients of all ages for the purpose of assisting in the diagnosis of patient illness. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and policies governing nuclear medicine practices, performing ordered examinations, reviewing procedure requests and patient information, administering contrast agents and radiopharmaceuticals, maintaining equipment quality, documenting radiopharmaceutical doses, and adhering to quality assurance and HIPAA guidelines. The technologist must demonstrate competency in all relevant areas, interact professionally with medical personnel, and maintain technical competency through continued education.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to start peripheral IV access lines.
- Proficiency in injection procedures, including manual unit doses and dose delivery systems.
- Operating knowledge of personal computers, camera and processing workstations, medical charting systems, PACS, and RIS.
- Flexible work schedule, with potential for shifts exceeding 8 hours.
- Professional interaction with attending, resident, and fellow personnel.
- Capability to produce high-quality special imaging with minimal supervision.
- Effective functioning in a team-oriented environment, including training personnel.
- Demonstrated competency in all relevant areas.
- Adherence to SNMMI Quality Standards, including CPR, Infection Control, and Imaging with Anesthesia.
- Ability to process all PET CT Imaging, including Axial Fusion processing and Myeloma Kidney Standard Cut and Coronal Cut.
- Perform quality assurance on PET cameras for X-ray, PET, and monthly constancy.
- Perform QC on dose calibrators and wipe counters.
Required Education:
- Completion of an approved School of Nuclear Medicine Technology Program.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- Registered with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMT) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) - Nuclear Medicine Technology (N).
- Active license from the State of New York Department of Health (Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist License – Diagnostic with Injection Registered).
- Active CT certification to perform diagnostic CT and PET-CT fusion imaging (ARRT - Computed Tomography (CT)).
- Maintains active Nuclear Medicine, CT licenses, and BLS certification.
