Mother/Baby Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Postpartum Couplet Care | Albuquerque, NM
Mother/Baby Travel Registered Nurse needed for a 13-week postpartum nursing contract in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Provide compassionate couplet care to postpartum patients and newborns on a collaborative women’s health unit while expanding your travel nursing experience. This night-shift assignment offers the opportunity to support families in a vibrant high-desert city known for its sunny climate, distinctive Southwestern culture, nearby Sandia Mountains, and abundant outdoor recreation.
Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,580–$1,660
- Assignment Type: 13-week Mother/Baby travel contract
- Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
- Start Date: October 26, 2026
- End Date: January 25, 2027
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Hours: 36 hours per week, with a potential 48-hour option
- Unit: Postpartum Couplet Care
- Patient Population: Postpartum adults, adolescents, and newborns
- Patient Volume: Approximately 20 patients daily in a 22-bed unit
- Additional Expectations: Weekend coverage and floating within the service area, including NICU, Labor and Delivery, and Antepartum
Mother/Baby Registered Nurse Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in New Mexico; a pending New Mexico or compact nursing license may be considered if obtained before the start date
- At least 1 year of professional Registered Nurse experience required; 2 years of Mother/Baby, postpartum, or couplet-care nursing experience preferred
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Experience caring for postpartum patients and newborns following vaginal and cesarean deliveries
- Ability to provide safe, compassionate patient care while floating to like units within scope of practice
- Comfort with electronic health record documentation; Epic experience preferred
- Strong communication, organization, prioritization, and patient-education skills
Mother/Baby RN Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to postpartum patients and newborns in a couplet-care environment
- Perform maternal and newborn assessments, including monitoring the fundus, lochia, perineum, incision sites, vital signs, pain, and recovery following delivery
- Support breastfeeding, breast-pump use, newborn bonding, safe sleep, car-seat education, and discharge preparation
- Care for patients with pregnancy-induced hypertension, postpartum hemorrhage risk, low-birth-weight infants, neonatal hypoglycemia, and other postpartum or newborn needs
- Administer medications and therapies safely, including IV antibiotics, magnesium sulfate, Pitocin, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, and blood products as indicated
- Provide newborn care such as metabolic screening, thermoregulation, glucose monitoring, phototherapy, cord care, identification verification, and vaccine administration
- Assist with cesarean-section recovery, post-epidural management, circumcision-site assessment, and incision care
- Recognize changes in maternal or newborn condition and promptly communicate concerns to the interdisciplinary care team
- Float to NICU, Labor and Delivery, or Antepartum areas as needed while practicing within established competencies
- Complete accurate clinical documentation and participate in coordinated care with respiratory services, pharmacy, phlebotomy, and social services
