Mother/Baby Registered Nurse (RN) – Postpartum Travel Nursing Job in Columbus, Ohio

This 13-week Registered Nurse (RN) travel assignment offers the opportunity to care for diverse postpartum and newborn populations in a supportive inpatient setting. Travel Nursing Job Details

- Assignment Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: November 2, 2026
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week
- Shift Duration: 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Setting: 40-bed inpatient postpartum unit with approximately 60 patients per day
- Patient Population: Postpartum adults, neonates, healthy newborns, and newborns requiring additional support
- Additional Scheduling Information: Weekend coverage is required, and floating to units with similar acuity may be necessary.
Mother/Baby RN Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent postpartum or Mother/Baby nursing experience
- Current Registered Nurse license valid in Ohio or a valid compact RN license in hand at the time of submission
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- IV certification and demonstrated IV-start competency
- Labor and delivery experience
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical records
- Telemetry interpretation competency and successful completion of an EKG examination before the start of the assignment
- Graduation from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- Ability to provide two professional references, including at least one reference from a supervisor, manager, director, or other formal leader
- Strong communication, assessment, organization, and family-education skills
Postpartum Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from vaginal and cesarean deliveries.
- Perform maternal and newborn assessments, including monitoring of vital signs, fundus, lochia, perineum, incision sites, pain, and recovery progress.
- Support couplet care and promote safe bonding, feeding, and family-centered newborn care.
- Care for postpartum readmissions, including patients with wound infections or preeclampsia.
- Monitor and manage postpartum complications such as hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and newborn hypoglycemia.
- Administer medications and therapies including IV antibiotics, magnesium sulfate, insulin, heparin, Pitocin, and pain-management medications as ordered.
- Initiate and maintain IV access, administer blood and blood products, and monitor patients for treatment response.
- Provide breastfeeding support, breast-pump education, cord care, circumcision-care teaching, discharge instruction, and newborn safety education.
- Care for newborns with varied needs, including low birth weight infants, large-for-gestational-age infants, multiple births, infants requiring phototherapy, and infants experiencing neonatal abstinence syndrome.
- Interpret telemetry rhythms and promptly identify changes requiring intervention or escalation.
- Collaborate with IV teams, pharmacy, social services, interpreters, physical therapy, rapid response teams, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
- Float to similar-acuity units as needed while maintaining safe, high-quality patient care.
