Mother-Baby Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Columbus, Ohio
Join a collaborative postpartum nursing team as a Mother-Baby Travel Registered Nurse caring for mothers and healthy newborns in a family-centered, 40-bed inpatient unit in Columbus, Ohio. This 13-week travel nursing assignment offers the opportunity to support patients through vaginal and cesarean deliveries while providing education, clinical care, and compassionate guidance during the transition home. Located in Columbus’s vibrant University District, the area offers an energetic community, convenient access to dining and cultural attractions, and a welcoming environment for travel nurses.
Travel Nurse Job Details
- Location: Columbus, Ohio
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,830–$1,930
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Start Date: November 16, 2026
- End Date: February 15, 2027
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 36 hours per week
- Shift: 12-hour day shifts, approximately 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- Weekend Coverage: Required
- Patient Population: Postpartum adults, neonates, healthy newborns, and neonatal abstinence syndrome infants
- Unit Focus: Mother-baby, couplet care, postpartum, and antepartum nursing
- Floating: May float to units with similar patient acuity, including antepartum services, based on organizational needs
- Orientation: 36 hours
Mother-Baby Registered Nurse Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio or a valid compact-state license in hand at the time of submission
- At least 2 years of recent postpartum or mother-baby nursing experience
- Labor and delivery experience, including familiarity with vaginal and cesarean delivery care
- Current BLS certification
- IV certification and demonstrated IV-start skills
- EPIC electronic health record experience
- Telemetry interpretation proficiency; successful completion of an EKG examination may be required before the start date
- Education from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- Ability to provide two professional references, including at least one manager, director, supervisor, or other formal nursing leader
- Flu vaccination required; medical exemptions may be considered
- Previous travel nursing experience is preferred but not required
- Strong communication, organization, assessment, and patient-education skills
Postpartum and Newborn Nursing Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to postpartum patients following vaginal and cesarean deliveries
- Deliver family-centered couplet care for mothers and newborns
- Perform maternal and newborn assessments, including monitoring vital signs, fundus, lochia, perineum, incision sites, and pain
- Recognize and respond to postpartum complications such as hemorrhage, preeclampsia, wound infection, and pregnancy-induced hypertension
- Administer medications and therapies, including IV antibiotics, magnesium sulfate, insulin, heparin, Pitocin, and pain-management medications as ordered
- Care for newborns requiring glucose monitoring, phototherapy, thermoregulation, metabolic screening, and neonatal abstinence monitoring
- Provide breastfeeding support, breast-pump instruction, newborn-care education, and discharge teaching to parents
- Perform cord care, identification procedures, circumcision-care education, and newborn safety teaching
- Interpret telemetry and dysrhythmias and promptly communicate changes in patient condition
- Initiate and maintain IV access while collaborating with IV teams and other interdisciplinary resources
- Float to comparable units as needed while maintaining safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care
