Mother/Baby Registered Nurse (RN) Travel Contract – Postpartum Nursing Job in Columbus, Ohio

Travel RN Job Details

- Assignment Type: Travel Registered Nurse contract
- Location: Columbus, Ohio
- Start Date: November 2, 2026
- Assignment Duration: 13 weeks, ending February 1, 2027
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 36 hours per week
- Shift: 12-hour day shifts, approximately 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Setting: On-site, 40-bed inpatient postpartum unit providing family-centered care for women and infants
- Patient Population: Postpartum adults, neonates, healthy newborns, and newborns requiring additional monitoring
- Weekend Coverage: Required
- Orientation: 36 hours
- Floating: May float to units with similar acuity and other departments within the health system as needed
Mother/Baby RN Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse license in Ohio or a valid compact-state license in hand at the time of submission
- At least 2 years of recent postpartum or Mother/Baby nursing experience
- Current BLS certification
- IV certification and demonstrated IV-start proficiency
- Labor and delivery nursing experience
- EPIC electronic health record documentation experience
- Telemetry interpretation proficiency and successful completion of an EKG examination before the start date
- Education from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- Two professional references, including at least one reference from a manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader
- Ability to complete required credentialing and fingerprinting promptly before the assignment start date
- Strong communication, assessment, organization, patient education, and family-support skills
Postpartum Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to postpartum patients and their newborns in a couplet-care model
- Complete comprehensive maternal and newborn assessments, including fundus, lochia, perineum, incision, pain, and vital-sign assessments
- Care for patients following vaginal delivery and Cesarean section, including postpartum recovery and discharge planning
- Recognize and respond to postpartum complications such as hemorrhage, preeclampsia, wound infection, and pregnancy-induced hypertension
- Monitor newborns for hypoglycemia, neonatal abstinence symptoms, low birth weight, and other changes in condition
- Administer medications and therapies including IV antibiotics, magnesium sulfate, insulin, heparin, Pitocin, analgesics, and antihypertensives as ordered
- Initiate and maintain IV access and administer blood and blood products according to established protocols
- Support breastfeeding and provide instruction on breast pumps, newborn care, cord care, circumcision care, and safe discharge practices
- Perform newborn care activities including thermoregulation, metabolic screening, phototherapy, vaccine administration, and identification procedures
- Interpret telemetry and dysrhythmias, communicate changes in patient status, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team
- Float to comparable units when needed while maintaining quality, safety, and patient-centered care
