Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse (PCU RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Hilo, Hawaii

Join a collaborative Progressive Care Unit team in Hilo, Hawaii, as a travel Registered Nurse and provide high-quality care to patients requiring telemetry, close monitoring, and intermediate-level support. This 13-week travel nursing assignment offers the opportunity to work in a 15-bed unit on Hawaii’s scenic Big Island, surrounded by a welcoming community, tropical landscapes, and abundant outdoor recreation.

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Position: Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit/Cardiac Progressive Care
• Location: Hilo, Hawaii
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,910–$2,010
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: October 26, 2026
• Schedule: 36 scheduled hours per week following the first week of orientation; hours are not guaranteed
• Call: No call requirement
• Unit: 15-bed Progressive Care Unit with step-down ICU and telemetry patients
• Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:4 for Progressive Care and 1:3 for step-down ICU
• Orientation Requirement: Arrival on the Thursday before the assignment start date is required for an employee health appointment on Friday
• Floating: May float to acute-care areas, including medical, surgical/pediatric, ICU, and emergency departments
• Dress Code: Scrubs

Progressive Care Unit RN Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of hospital acute-care nursing experience within the past year
• Progressive Care Unit, step-down ICU, and telemetry nursing experience preferred
• Active Hawaii Registered Nurse (RN) license by the start of the assignment; candidates without an active Hawaii license must apply upon acceptance
• ACLS certification preferred
• Current PALS certification preferred
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Ability to meet the required arrival and orientation schedule

PCU Travel Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive primary nursing care to Progressive Care and step-down ICU patients
• Perform continuous cardiac monitoring and accurately interpret telemetry strips
• Monitor patients requiring intermediate-level and cardiac-focused care
• Perform fingerstick blood sugar testing and document results appropriately
• Provide safe medication administration using Pyxis and complete accurate documentation in Meditech
• Care for patients receiving BIPAP and other advanced monitoring or supportive therapies
• Communicate changes in patient condition to the interdisciplinary care team
• Float to designated acute-care units as needed while maintaining safe, high-quality patient care
