Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (Cardiac Stepdown) position on nights, requiring 2 years of stepdown acute care experience and telemetry proficiency.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting in the Progressive Care Unit (Cardiac Stepdown, 4A/4B)
  • 4A focuses on cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery patients, while 4B handles smaller procedures, drips, and CHF patients
  • Common diagnoses include POD #1 CABG, cardiovascular surgeries, fem-pops, arteriogram, CEA, thoracotomy, VATS, EVARs, AAA repairs, carotid endarterectomies, stents, pacemakers, ablations, AICD, CHF, and Afib with RVR
  • Unit has 44 beds including 8 semiprivate rooms, with average census of 32-38 patients and high daily turnover
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with nurse aide ratio of 1:10
  • Utilizes Philips telemetry monitoring; nurses must be able to read and interpret strips
  • Manages titrated drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, dobutamine, renal-dose dopamine, Lasix, Bumex, heparin, Primacor, and Vaprisol
  • Works with BiPap, CPAP, and Vapotherm; no full ventilator management
  • Charts using MEDITECH EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts from 7p-7a
  • Every other weekend required
  • Must be flexible to work holidays and days surrounding holidays as needed
  • Floating to ICU required, limited to stepdown-level patients unless traveler has ICU experience
  • In-house Hospitalist/Intensivist coverage 24/7, along with 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy support
  • Dedicated PICC/IV team available
  • Floor-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA or Compact) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of Stepdown experience in an acute care setting required without exception
  • Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips required
  • Ability to manage titrated cardiac drips and non-invasive ventilation support (BiPap, CPAP, Vapotherm)
  • Preferred ability to pull pacer wires; training provided if needed
  • Must be comfortable floating to ICU and taking stepdown-level patients or performing tasking duties if ICU experience is not held

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced cardiac stepdown environment with frequent admissions and discharges
  • Work under the supervision of a Charge Nurse (Clinical Supervisor)
  • Scrub color required: Caribbean Blue
  • Dress code requires natural hair color, no fake nails or shellac, no facial piercings, and no visible tattoos
  • Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility based on driver's license address to be eligible for this position
  • Not eligible for placement if previously employed by the facility within the last 12 months
  • First-time travelers may be considered for this position
