Job Title: Radiation Therapist Profession: Radiation Oncology Specialty: Radiation Therapist Duration: 6 months Shift: Days, Mon-Fri Hours per Shift: 8am-4:30pm Experience: A minimum of 1-2 years of radiation therapy experience is preferred. License: State licensed radiation therapist Certifications: ARRT license; CPR certified Must-Have: Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills Description: Under general supervision, the Radiation Therapist performs radiotherapy procedures as prescribed by a physician according to established standards and practices. Provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, registration, and/or assessed competencies. Practice will be in accordance with laws and regulations and will adhere to established policies, procedures, and practice guidelines. Education: A minimum of an associate's degree in radiography with a certification in radiation therapy is required. Bachelor's degree in radiation therapy is preferred. Graduate of an approved school registered through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy. Demonstrates a willingness to understand others' perspectives, treating others with compassion and providing patient and family-centered care. Observes patients for any unusual reactions or events during treatment. Schedules patients for treatments and consults with supportive care providers. Checks prescription, diagnosis, chart, and patient identification to ensure accurate treatments. Prepares electronic and written documentation as required by the profession. Prepares room and equipment for patient treatment and positions patients for therapy. Reinforces recommendations concerning reactions to treatment and care. Performs verification and port film exposures for all treated areas and makes corrections as directed. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and workshops. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Physical Capacity Demand: Medium Work, exerting up to 20-50 pounds of force occasionally. Psychological/Mental: Requires analytical abilities, memory, problem-solving, and creativity.
