Setting: Short Term Acute Care Hospital, inpatient behavioral health units
This travel assignment supports two inpatient behavioral health units serving adolescents in a short-term acute care hospital. The role centers on delivering coordinated nursing care within established standards of care, collaborating with the multidisciplinary team, and supporting patient and family learning and discharge planning. EPIC experience is required.

Responsibilities
- Deliver direct nursing care to adolescent patients in inpatient behavioral health units using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation).
- Monitor patient status, administer medications, and ensure safety through de-escalation techniques as needed (CPI/TEAM or TEAM-A per policy).
- Collaborate with mental health technicians, physicians, therapists, social workers, and families to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Document care and interventions in the electronic health record (EPIC); participate in discharge planning and care transitions.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to assigned nursing staff; coordinate duties of the healthcare team to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.
- Adhere to unit policies, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements; participate in rounds, handoffs, and continuous quality improvement activities.
Requirements
- Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) license in California required.
- Education: BSN preferred.
- Certifications: CPR/BLS required; Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM) or TEAM-A required; ACLS and PALS (or ARC equivalents) required; EPIC experience required.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent nursing experience; inpatient behavioral health or acute care experience strongly preferred; prior experience on two behavioral health units is noted in the shift context.
- Skills: Ability to work in an inpatient behavioral health setting; strong communication and collaboration with the treatment team; comfort with on-call responsibilities if required.
