Responsibilities
- Review and authorize utilization decisions for skilled services, coordinating with the care team to ensure appropriate level of care.
- Assess medical necessity and document rationale for care decisions; communicate with payers as required.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and case managers to coordinate care plans and discharge planning.
- Monitor patient progress, length of stay, and utilization metrics; support efficient bed management and transitions.
- Ensure compliance with payer policies, regulatory requirements, and facility policies; maintain accurate, timely documentation.
- Provide on-call coverage as required; respond to after-hours utilization management inquiries and urgent reviews.
Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license in New Mexico (or eligible for NM licensure for the assignment)
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program (RN)
- Ability to work 40 hours per week and participate in on-call duties; weekends as needed
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team
- Experience in utilization management, care coordination, or discharge planning in a skilled nursing or similar setting preferred
