Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist for a NICU/Adult Critical Care night shift position at a teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of RRT experience and MD state licensure.

Details

  • Short term acute care teaching hospital and member of the COTH with 338 staffed beds
  • RRT position floating between Adult Critical Care and NICU units
  • Night shift, 3x12 hour shifts
  • Every other weekend required with holiday coverage expected
  • No on-call requirement
  • 13-week contract
  • Uses Draeger V500, Draeger VN500, and Servo U ventilators
  • Charts in Cerner

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an RRT in Adult Critical Care and NICU within the last 7 years
  • Completion of at least 1 prior travel assignment required
  • BLS and CRT certifications required
  • MD state license required (compact license also accepted); license required if applicable
  • NRP certification required
  • ACLS and PALS certifications preferred
  • RRT certification preferred
  • ED experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
  • Comfortable drawing and analyzing ABGs
  • Cerner charting experience required
  • Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment, supporting at least 2 years of experience in the previous 3 years

Additional Information

  • Perform airway management including endotracheal tube suctioning, extubation, nasal and oral airway placement/suctioning, oropharyngeal suctioning, and tracheostomy care/suctioning
  • Conduct pulmonary hygiene and sputum specimen collection
  • Interpret arterial blood gases and perform umbilical blood gas draws
  • Assist in high-risk deliveries
  • Manage ventilators including BiPAP and CPAP, troubleshoot high pressure alarms, and wean patients from mechanical ventilation
  • Administer a range of respiratory medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, and others via nebulizer, MDI, or aerosol setup
  • Utilize High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) and trach collar oxygen therapy
  • Preferred skills include bronchoscopy, inhaled Nitric Oxide (iNO), inhaled Flolan, Ketamine, Mucomyst, Bicarbonate, and Theophylline
  • Scrubs are not provided; ceil blue scrub color required
  • Flu vaccine required for all employees
  • Local candidates within 60 miles of the facility accepted at a lower rate
  • No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment; maximum 7 days RTO per 13-week contract
  • Previous MedStar employees must have been separated for at least one year before returning as a traveler
