The RT II will deliver patient care in complex, multi-problem situations, primarily in critical care areas. The position requires protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision-making, and self-direction. In addition to patient care delivery, the RT II is responsible for patient and family education, coordination of activities, staff development, and professional self-development. The role includes addressing biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs when providing care. The RT II participates in the education of new staff and others. Core responsibilities include providing customer service, completing patient care documentation, and promoting a team spirit and positive work environment. The RT II administers quality patient care by performing patient assessments and collaborating with healthcare team members. This includes verifying orders, administering aerosolized medications, bronchial hygiene, oxygen, and medical gas therapy. The RT II performs ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation, and airway management. This role also includes arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. Education and mentoring of patients, new employees, students, and peers is a vital part of this position. The RT II promotes a safe and quality environment by ensuring accurate electronic orders, charting, and charging. The RT II advocates for a high level of patient safety and participates in performance improvement initiatives. The position also requires promoting evidence-based practices and reviewing revised and new departmental procedures. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
