Description:
The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration.
This role involves implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge and experience.
The therapist will deliver patient care in complex, multiple problem-patient situations.
The majority of work will be in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management.
This position requires significant independent decision-making and self-direction.
The therapist will also engage in patient and family/support system education.
Coordination of activities and participation in staff development is essential.
Professional and self-development activities are part of the core responsibilities.
The Respiratory Therapist II must provide care while being aware of population-specific needs.
Addressing biological, emotional, developmental, and psychosocial needs is critical.
The therapist is responsible for educating patients and mentoring new employees and peers.
Patient assessments and therapy planning will be conducted collaboratively with the healthcare team.
Verification of orders and administration of aerosolized medications will be performed.
Ventilator management, weaning, and airway management tasks will be essential duties.
The therapist will conduct arterial blood gas sampling and analysis.
Promoting a safe and quality environment is a priority.
This includes maintaining accurate electronic orders, charting, and charging.
The therapist will promote high levels of patient safety and participate in performance improvement initiatives.
Evidence-based practice will be encouraged and reviewed regularly.
Other duties may be assigned as required.
