The individual should have the ability to work without supervision and maintain supervision over others when delegated. The role involves providing respiratory care services for adult and geriatric patients. Respiratory care is provided for patients with respiratory diseases as ordered by the physician and in accordance with department policies. Responsibilities include completing paperwork, electronic medical records, and charges for each patient. Essential functions include assessing and documenting the appropriateness of prescribed therapy for patients receiving respiratory care. The practitioner administers aerosol and oxygen therapy while maintaining charts and drawing arterial blood gases per policy and physician orders. Care for ventilator patients is also provided. The role includes assisting in department record keeping and operation, as well as training and supervising new employees. Documentation of care given and maintaining treatment records is required. Instruction of nursing personnel in patient surveillance and equipment handling after initial installation is part of the duties. Performing drainage procedures and providing additional patient care regarding cardio respiratory diseases is necessary. The practitioner provides suggestions regarding patient treatment and pulmonary progress. Assistance in cardio respiratory rehabilitation is part of the role. Instruction to patients and families about cardio respiratory disease and its ramifications is provided. The practitioner makes rounds to check all respiratory therapy equipment in use or on standby in patient areas. Completion of the initial ventilator bundle orders upon the initiation of mechanical ventilation is essential. Compliance with VAP bundle for all patients receiving mechanical ventilation should be ensured. Identifying measurable and reasonable outcomes while utilizing appropriate therapy interventions to resolve patient needs is part of the job. Updating and communicating the diagnosis based on patients' changing conditions and disease status is required. Assistance with maintenance and processing of equipment used in respiratory therapy services is expected. The practitioner serves as a knowledgeable resource to physicians and hospital staff regarding the technical aspects of respiratory care. Assistance in stocking and reordering parts and equipment is necessary. The setup of specialty equipment and ensuring cleanliness for next use is part of the role. Assisting physicians with bronchoscopies and special procedures is included in the responsibilities. Quality control, staff schedules, and competencies should be supported.
