Job Title: Respiratory Therapist Profession: Cardiopulmonary Specialty: Respiratory Therapy Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours (5:45 p.m. - 6:15 a.m.) Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Current Respiratory Therapist License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, PALS Must-Have: Strong computer skills with the ability to navigate EMR programs Description: The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing cardiopulmonary care services in accordance with specific physician's orders and department policies. The role involves assessing, treating, and caring for patients with breathing disorders. The therapist initiates and conducts therapeutic procedures, maintains patient records, and operates respiratory care equipment. The therapist performs accurate and complete respiratory assessments of patients and conducts initial screenings. They assess and reassess pain and ensure assessments are age, culture, and psycho-social appropriate. They determine requirements for treatment, including the type, method, and duration of therapy, as well as precautions and medication dosages. A teaching plan is formulated based on identified learning needs, and the effectiveness of learning is evaluated. This includes educating patients and families regarding pain management and discharge planning. The therapist monitors patients' physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, and consults with physicians if adverse reactions occur. They prepare and administer medications based on the age and clinical condition of the patient and demonstrate knowledge of respiratory medications. The therapist conducts tests, including lung capacity tests, to evaluate patients' cardiopulmonary functions. They adjust equipment to obtain optimum results in therapy. Routine cleaning is completed to maintain department equipment, and the therapist assists with the calibration of equipment. Proper documentation is ensured to be complete, accurate, and timely in both electronic and chart form. They perform all aspects of the position in a safe environment, utilizing established hand-off communication protocols. The therapist complies with all established safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Participation in performance improvement activities is expected. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
