Must-Have: - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical information and technical procedures. - Ability to document clinical information effectively. - Excellent communication skills to respond to questions from patients, families, and staff. - Mathematical skills to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios to practical situations. - Reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions. - Ability to interpret a variety of technical situations. Description: Under the direction of department management and according to policies and procedures defined in the departmental manuals, the Respiratory Therapist II demonstrates an advanced level of knowledge in respiratory care and assigned patient care areas. The Respiratory Therapist II administers competent care of patients through airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and respiratory care procedures designed to assess, prevent, stabilize, or remedy patients' respiratory dysfunction. Administers standard respiratory care including aerosol medication delivery, basic bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, and arterial punctures. Provides for all aspects of airway management including aspiration of established airways, tracheostomy care, tracheostomy tube changes, endotracheal intubations, and extubations. May perform pulmonary function testing as needed. When working with the transport service, may transport pediatric and neonatal patients from referral hospitals per established protocol. May perform respiratory care and advanced practice procedures as deemed necessary. May be required to be on-call days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Performs all aspects of ventilator care, including setting up the ventilator and verifying function using specialized ventilator modes to manage the patient's disease process. Provides appropriate monitoring of these patients and applies appropriate weaning techniques. Maintains and improves job knowledge and skills. Functions independently with minimal supervision. Serves as a resource to other staff.
