Job Title: Respiratory Therapist II Profession: Respiratory Therapist Specialty: Pediatrics Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Two (2) years as a Respiratory Therapist License: Current certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required Certifications: ACLS, NRP, PALS, or Advanced practice certificate to administer moderate sedation in Bronchoscopy Lab Must-Have: - Competent care of patients through airway management - Mechanical ventilator management - Oxygen therapy - Aerosol therapy Description: Under the direction of department management and according to policies and procedures as defined in the Department Policy and Procedure Manuals, the Respiratory Therapist II demonstrates an advanced level of knowledge in respiratory care and assigned patient care areas. The Respiratory Therapist II administers competent care of patients through airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and respiratory care procedures. Job responsibilities include assessing, preventing, stabilizing, or remedying patients' respiratory dysfunction. Administers standard respiratory care, including aerosol medication delivery, basic bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, oxygen therapy, and arterial punctures. Provides for all aspects of airway management, including aspiration of established airways, tracheostomy care, tracheostomy tube changes, endotracheal intubations, and extubations. May transport pediatric and neonatal patients per protocol. May perform respiratory care and advanced practice procedures, including UAC, UVC, IV insertion, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, arterial blood gas analysis, and blood glucose monitoring. When working with ECMO, may manage extracorporeal circulation for cardiac and respiratory support of patients. May be required to be on-call during days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Performs all aspects of ventilator care, including setting up the ventilator and verifying function. Provides appropriate monitoring of patients and implements weaning techniques. Maintains and improves job knowledge and skills. Functions independently with minimal supervision and serves as a resource to other staff reflective of experience level.
