Key Responsibilities of the Respiratory Therapist

Care for patients with respiratory conditions, including COVID-19
Assist with intubation and extubation procedures
Perform nasal and oral airway placement and suctioning
Manage tracheostomy care and mechanical ventilation weaning
Collect sputum specimens
Operate respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula
Troubleshoot high-pressure alarms

Requirements of the Respiratory Therapist

Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
AHA or ARC BLS certification
RRT and CRT certifications
Experience with EPIC charting system
